That's where we'll leave it

What a day, what a game!

No doubt the celebrations for the Chiefs will be going long and hard in Las Vegas.

The Chiefs made history, as the first back-to-back champions in 19 years (since Tom Brady and the New England Patriots).

Congratulations to Kansas City, commiserations to San Francisco — and to Aussie punter Mitch Wishnowsky, who played a blinder keeping the Chiefs pinned with his top kicking game but came up short.

How are we going to top this next year! And who will follow Usher as the half-time entertainment?

From myself, Andrew McGarry, and Mawunyo Gbogbo, thank you for joining us on the blog, and have a good afternoon!

Super Bowl LVIII - the highlights

What a Super Bowl — was there enough drama and big moments for you?

From Travis Kelce losing it on the sideline after a key turnover, to the trick play from the 49ers that gave them a 10-point lead, or Jake Moody's missed extra point for the 49ers, there was PLENTY going on.

You can check out Simon Smale's Super Bowl Five Quick Hits here.

Patrick Mahomes is talking

He is talking on the post-game show, and he has one word to describe it all.

"Surreal. It's just surreal right now, I don't think it's sunk in yet," he said.

"The season we had this year, to be Super Bowl champions, it's surreal.

"I think we just kept fighting (in the fourth quarter and overtime). The guys continued to battle ... that's been our entire season."

Spare a thought for the 49ers

That was one hell of a game, and one hell of a finish.

Yet again, San Francisco ends up on the wrong side of things.

They won their first five Super Bowls, but since beating San Diego 49-26 29 years ago, they have now lost three straight times when they got to the big game.

For 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, it's a bitter bit of deja vu, after his team gave up a lead to lose to Kansas City four years ago. He was also involved with the Atlanta Falcons when they gave up a 28-3 lead in Super Bowl LII to lose in overtime to New England.

Where to from here?

Who knows. This will burn for the 49ers, but the time is ticking on Brock Purdy's rookie contract. Sooner or later they will have to pay him more than $US870,000 ($1.3 million) a year - and then they will have to make some HARD salary cap decisions.

Patrick Mahomes wins the Super Bowl MVP for the third time

We can't really be surprised — there were times there where it looked like all that was keeping Kansas City in the game was Mahomes' willpower.

But when it counted, the Chiefs number 15 got it done once again. Four Super Bowls, three wins, three MVPs.

NFL great — sure. It wasn't really in question before now, but he is going for rarefied air now, as only one of five to win the Super Bowl three times.  As we said earlier, he's just 28, so watch out the rest of the league.

Travis Kelce lets loose on the Super Bowl stage

Travis Kelce is in LOUD mode up there.

He screams out a version of "Viva Las Vegas", and then points to a possible "three-peat".

"The goal has always been three, but to do that we had to win two. And to have that target on our back … we've done it!"

No mention of another kind of ring for Taylor Swift, by the way.

Andy Reid not talking about his future

Reid is smiling widely — as you would — at winning his third Super Bowl.

Asked about his future or his legacy, he says he doesn't know about that.

"Chiefs fans, 1-2-3, how about those ..."

The crowd roars "Chiefs!!!!!!!!!"

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt takes the trophy

Hunt says it has been an "amazing five-year run".

"I wanted to thank the Lord giving us this opportunity.

"I think about my parents (original owners Lamar and Norma Hunt) and how proud they would have been."

Denver Broncos great John Elway brings out the Vince Lombardi Trophy

John Elway won two Super Bowls as Denver quarterback ... it's fitting that he is bringing out the Vince Lombardi Trophy to the Kansas City Chiefs for a win orchestrated by another great quarterback.
