Match report and highlights

The Storm have continued Brisbane's misery in Melbourne, roaring home to clinch a 34-32 thriller in their Thursday night NRL battle at AAMI Park.

Melbourne trailed by four points with six minutes left on the clock but a try from Tyran Wishart put his team ahead before Jahrome Hughes crossed for a 34-26 lead.

Brisbane's towering Ben Te Kura, making his debut, then scored in the 77th minute to set up a grandstand finish but the home side was able to hang on.

While the Broncos ended a 14-game losing streak with their semi-final thumping of the Storm at Suncorp Stadium last year, they are winless at AAMI Park since 2016.

Playing out a pulsating, high-quality contest, it appeared that Brisbane would overcome the loss of star halfback Adam Reynolds to take their third win of the season.

Reynolds was in tears in the shed at halftime after he limped off the field but concerns that he suffered another knee injury eased with initial reports that he suffered a low grade hamstring strain.

The Brisbane skipper failed to return but his team, who were ahead 18-16 at halftime, still threw everything at Melbourne with electric five-eighth Mam scoring a brilliant try in each half.

Both sides scored three tries in the first half with Eli Katoa crossing twice for the Storm, charging over the top of Mam in one barnstorming run,

Melbourne winger Xavier Coates scored after taking a hanger off a Hughes kick while Mam's first effort was also part of the highlight reel when he touched down after collecting a perfectly-weighted kick from flying winger Jesse Arthars.

The Broncos will be ruing a late missed opportunity when Arthars butchered a certain try in the 63rd minute when he dropped a Selwyn Cobbo pass with the line wide open.

They jumped on a penalty five minutes later with Kotoni Staggs booting Brisbane four points clear.

But the margin wasn't enough to deny Melbourne.

Wishart barrelled across the line, with the bunker over-ruling referee Ashley Klein, and Hughes put up a bomb which Brisbane back Corey Oates bizarrely booted towards the try-line for the Storm No.7 to pounce for his try.

Reynolds: I felt it in the first half and tried to push through

A devastated Adam Reynolds on ABC Sport after Brisbane's narrow defeat.

The Broncos halfback confirms he has a hamstring concern but isn't sure of the severity.

"I felt it midway through the first half and tried to push through ... we'll get back to Brisbane, get a scan and go from there."

FULLTIME: STORM 34 DEF BRONCOS 32

Melbourne give away a penalty, on halfway on the sideline, Staggs can't kick it so the Broncos go for the line. They'll have a full set at the Storm.

They play a little frantic and Sailor hoists a kick on the last but it's way too deep and Warbrick takes it uncontested. The Storm survive. What an incredible game.

78th minute: BRONCOS TRY

Yeah, sure, why not - Brisbane get the short kick-off back and then Te Kura, the NRL's young giant, smashes his way over for a try on debut! Staggs convers, Melbourne lead 34-32, the Broncos will get one more set in.

77th minute: STORM TRY

This insane game ends with a truly bizarre try - Hughes puts a kick up, nobody tries to cach it but Coates sticks a leg out, the deflection is kind to the Storm and Hughes is there to dive on the ball over he line to score and seal the game for Melbourne. A well-deserved try for Hughes, he's been fantastic tonight, Meaney converts and Melbourne are up 34-26.

75th minute: Storm penalty

Brisbane's short kick-off goes out on the full, Melbourne can close the game out with another score here.

74th minute: STORM TRY

Munster puts in a nice grubber to earn a drop out and Melbourne will get another shot at Brisbane's line. Time is running short, only eight minutes left.

Grant goes short to Wishart and the utility is claiming it....dunno how likely that is, he looked to be held up pretty clearly....but wait, on the reverse angle he managed to get a little bit of it down! What an effort from Wishart and that levels the scores, Meaney should be able to put the Storm in front here.....and he does. Melbourne lead 28-26.

Adam Reynolds out with injury

Here's the vision of Reynolds copping that hamstring injury. Note the no-contact mechanism, that's not a great sign.

63rd minute: Broncos error

Coates drops a bomb and Sailor picks it up, they just need one pass and they'll score but Staggs goes himself and drops it.....only for Oates and Cobbo to combine and force an error from Warbrick and put Brisbane right back on the attack.

Cobbo beats a defender and seemingly puts Arthars over for a simple try but the drops it with the line wide open! One of the worst bombed tries of the year.
