Djokovic praises Alcaraz but admits he nearly pulled out through injury

After winning what was the match of the tournament so far, Novak Djokovic heaped praise on his opponent Carlos Alcaraz.

"First I want to say i give my utmost respect and admiration for Carlos Alcaraz," he said.

"What a terrific guy and even better competitor. I am sure we are going to see a lot of him and more than perhaps I would like," he added while laughing.

Djokovic, like many of us watching at home, wanted this match to be the final.

"I just wish this match today was the final."

"One of the most epic matches I have played on this court and on any court really."

Looking ahead, Djokovic was cagey with his injury saying he doesn't want to give too much away to semifinal opponent Alexander Zverev.

But he did admit he may have pulled out if he lost the second set.

"The medication started working, I had to take another dose, I had to.

"If I lost the second set I am not sure if i would have continued playing."

Despite an impressive performance on the pitch, Djokovic was not impressed with his kids being awake at 1am.

"I am surprised my kids are still here.

"I love you and thank you for supporting me but it's 1am, when are you going to sleep tonight?"

Novak Djokovic defeats Carlos Alcaraz in quarterfinal classic

Novak Djokovic has defeated Carlos Alcaraz in what will likely go down as an Australian Open quarterfinal classic.

The 10-time champion once again showed his skills and tennis-wisdom to overcome Alcaraz in four sets.

After dropping the first set, Djokovic turned things around to win the next three-in-a-row.

The scorecard read 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.

Both players are exhausted after that.

And both players just put on a show for tennis fans around the world.

Alcaraz showed exemplary skill throughout, often times hitting some stunning winners.

However the experienced Djokovic proved once more that he is one of the best to ever do it.

He moves on to the semifinals, and it will be his 50th grand slam semi.

Some stat. Some player.

He is up 5-3. The finish line is in sight.

Every single point is tense and almost always ends in a ridiculously well-placed winner, whomever hits it is the only variable.

This is tennis deserved of a grand slam final, aren't we lucky to get it in a quarterfinal?

The problem is Djokovic is doing one better.
