Sinner cracks joke at coaches expense, switches focus to final

World number one Jannik Sinner showed a lighter, more real side to his personality after tonight's match.

Speaking about his coaches he laughed and said it's good that they are different.

"I have an incredible team right there," he said.

"I think every coach has his own department where he is good and I have two very different coaches.

"Simone (Vagnozzi) is very tactical; he was ranked 161 and Darren (Cahill) was around 30 so it is a bit different," he said whilst giggling.

The joviality quickly dispersed though as he spoke to what he expects from Alexander Zverev in the final on Sunday.

"It is a very tough match, we had some very tough matches in the past," he said.

"Everything can happen, he is an incredible player and he is looking for his first major.

"I'm happy to put myself again in this position and especially in tournaments, (finals) are very, very special day. So I'm going to enjoy it."

'Not the way you'd want to reach a grand slam final'

Alexander Zverev has posted on Instagram about reaching the Australian Open final at the expense of an injured Novak Djokovic, who retired after losing the first set of their semifinal.

"Not the way you'd want to reach a Grand Slam final. Immense respect for @djokernole, one of the greatest athletes of all time. Get well soon! See you all on Sunday."

Sinner admits there is some cramp after semifinal

Speaking on court after his semifinal win, Jannick Sinner said he was pleased with his performance.

He did say he thought Ben Shelton was not serving his best and that helped him in the match.

"It was a very tough first set but a very crucial one and I felt like he was serving at his best today," he said.

"I think we both actually returned better than we served.

"There was a lot of tension for both of us and I'm very happy how I handled the situation today."

In terms of the cramps, he didn't want to give too much away. But he did admit to some discomfort.

"A lot of tension today, slightly cramped," he said.

"I tried to stay a little bit more aggressive which today helped a lot.

"I'm very happy to be back in the finals and then now we see what is coming Sunday."

Jannik Sinner advances to Australian Open final

Game, set, and match. Jannik Sinner has cruised into the final after defeating Ben Shelton in straight sets.

Despite suffering from cramp, Sinner was able to push through any pain he was experiencing and take out the third set 6-2.

The final score was 7-6(7/2), 6-2, 6-2.

Throughout the match, Shelton did test and challenge the defending Aus Open champion, but his strong forehand and powerful serve was not a match to Sinner's relentlessness.

The world number one from Italy will have a chance to defend his title on Sunday against Alexander Zverev.

Sinner breaks and he's now serving for the match

It looks like Ben Shelton's lost focus. Jannik Sinner just broke his serve to love.

The American was making poor shot selections and gave up four easy points there.

A weakened-with-cramp Sinner will take the easy game, no doubt.

He's serving for the match now.

Sinner consolidates the break to lead 4-2 in the third

The pickle juice has worked! Sinner just held his serve to love with ease.

He smashed a 168km/h forehand winner and then the next point a backhand winner much the same speed.

What cramp?

Ben Shelton was left stunned there.

Sinner breaks despite cramp setting in

Jannik Sinner has broken Ben Shelton's serve whilst battling cramp.

Shelton gave up a double fault at a crucial point to lose momentum and hand Sinner the game.

But throughout that game the Italian was seen to be struggling.

At the change of ends he was seen drinking pickle juice.

He took several things in fact, and had a massage.

Sinner holds despite cramp concerns

Sinner saved two break points in that game and a small battle with cramp to hold his serve.

It was impressive. He utilised some powerful serves at 15-40 down to turn that one around.

But he is taking extended breaks between points to stretch his legs.

Shelton holds his serve in beautiful style

At different points in tonight's match, Shelton has shown his skill and power and proved he his a very, very good tennis player.

That game was yet another example of that.

He held his serve, finishing it off with an ace.

But the moment of the game came when he won a 23-shot rally with a delicate but well-placed backhand. Sinner was nowhere near it.

Here's that shot:
