That is all for the Australian Open 2025

The Australian Open is over.

A terrific two weeks of tennis have concluded.

Jannik Sinner finished off the tournament by defending his men's singles title.

American Madison Keys became a fan-favourite with her thumping forehands and never-say-die attitude.

On behalf of myself and the entire ABC Sport team, thank-you for joining us on the blogs.

Goodnight.

Djokovic tells Zverev he will get there one day

Novak Djokovic, who retired with injury in his semifinal against Alexander Zverev, has posted on Instagram to give his condolences to his mate.

Zverev has lost all three of his grand slam finals — here, at the 2020 US Open and the 2024 French Open.

Djokovic posted:

"Sasha, keep believing my friend! You have IT in you."

He also congratulated Sinner in Italian.

Praise from a peer

The past five men's grand slam titles have been won by Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz.

Theirs is a rivalry that, if we're lucky, will enthrall us for the next decade. And there's plenty of mutual respect there.

Sinner is 'in a different universe'

Jannik Sinner has won the previous three grand slams on hard courts.

Alexander Zverev says the world number one is a cut above the rest right now.

"The facts speak for themselves. He's in a different universe to everyone else at the moment."

The German was consoled by Sinner prior to the trophy presentation — a touching moment between the pair.

"He said I would definitely lift one of those trophies (majors) during my career."

Zverev addresses spectator who yelled out before on-court speech

As reported earlier, a spectator yelled out before Alexander Zverev spoke on-court.

The spectator's cry was in reference to a pair of ex-partners who have previously accused the German of abuse.

Zverev has always maintained his innocence. The accusations of one partner were reportedly never alleged to police. The other was settled outside of court.

Zverev says it is a topic he is not going to engage with.

"I think there are no more accusations. Good for her (woman who yelled out), I think I've done everything I can. I'm not going to open that subject again. "

'I'm doing everything I can': Zverev

Alexander Zverev is speaking to the media following his defeat in the final of the Australian Open.

Zverev has been in three finals but is yet to be crowned a grand slam champion.

It is a fear the German says he has.

"I'm doing everything I can, I'm working as hard as I ever had ...but I lost in straights-sets today. I don't want to end my career as the best player not to win a grand slam."

Analysis: Sinner and Zverev destined for contrasting legacies after lopsided final

There was not a lot separating Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev heading into this final.

But after Sinner's successful title defence, the duo look destined to have entirely different on-court legacies.

Australian coach praised by Sinner

Australian coach Darren Cahill has guided Jannik Sinner to world number one and three grand slam titles.

The other players Cahill has guided to the top are:

  • Andre Agassi
  • Lleyton Hewitt
  • Simona Halep

Sinner says this could been Cahill's final Australian Open.

"I know Darren, it's your probably, maybe, I tried to convince you — it's your last Australian Open as a coach, and I'm very, very happy to share this trophy with you."
