STUMPS: Sri Lanka 8-211, leading by 54 runs (Kusal Mendis 48)

Well, I can't believe how much the game has shifted in that final hour.

Angelo Mathews and Kusal Mendis looked ready to bat Sri Lanka into a healthy lead and give Australia a really tricky chase, but Mathews's wicket precipitated a little mini collapse to close it out.

Prabath Jayasuriya's dismissal, allowed to face 12 balls and devoid of protection from set batter Mendis, is the most perplexing and it could go a long way towards costing Sri Lanka the match.

To Australia's credit, Steve Smith and his team have never stopped trying, and the field placings and introduction of bowlers was superb in the final stages.

It feels like we're heading for another Aussie win, but Mendis still holds the key and Sri Lanka is technically in front right now.

Join us again tomorrow for the exciting conclusion to the series.

OUT! Last ball, can you believe that!?

Matthew Kuhnemann nicks off Prabath Jayasuriya and the single off the last ball of the previous over proves as ill-advised as it looked.

63rd over - The final over of the day

Prabath Jayasuriya faces up to Matthew Kuhnemann to finish off the day's play.

62nd over - Mendis trusting Jayasuriya

Kusal Mendis takes a single of the first ball and Prabath Jayasuriya faces up.

He goes reverse! Straight to first slip, but still.

And he gets off strike with one to square leg.

Again, Mendis takes a single off the fourth ball. Jayasuriya does look much more confident and competent in this innings than he has before.

And Jayasuriya takes a single to end the over. This is odd.

61st over - Beau Webster, of course, keeps bowling

A lot of turn into Kusal Mendis here, who's on 44 off 46.

He sweeps away behind square leg and takes the single. Again, Prabath Jayasuriya has four balls to survive.

Jayasuriya charges and drives a full toss down the ground. Beau Webster takes off after it shouting, I presume: "I believe that's Mr Gilmore's!"

He eventually tracks it down for three runs.

60th over - Lyon to Kusal Mendis

BIG LBW SHOUT! It's denied, but Smith reviews. Might stay not out because Kusal Mendis might have been hit outside the line, but only just on umpire's call.

Oh wow. Juuuuuuuuust outside the line. Kusal Mendis survives.

I maintain, that's the wrong call by the umpire on the field.

Mendis clips to mid-wicket and takes the single? Prabath Jayasuriya will have to see out four balls.

But he takes a single too. And Mendis does the same off the penultimate ball, which makes more sense.

59th over - This is what it looks like when Slugs fly!

Almost a stunning return catch from Webster as Jayasuriya chips a ball towards mid-off and Webster makes a majestic leap and sticks the left hand out, but can't quite reach it.

YOU DON'T KNOW BEAU!! He gets Ramesh Mendis in his first over

An immediate breakthrough for the big Slug from Snug, as Ramesh Mendis pushes out at one and edges it straight to short leg, where Travis Head takes the sharp chance.

All of a sudden, the momentum has shifted all over again.

59th over - Beau Webster has the hot hand, so he's into the attack

Fresh off the catch, Beau Webster is into the attack for the first time in this innings. And he's going to bowl his offies.

He finds the edge of Kusal Mendis, but his towel fell out as he was bowling, so even if had been caught, it would've been a dead ball.

Kusal gets a single and the fielders come in to pressure the new batter.

58th over - Sri Lanka is six wickets down, leading by 41 runs

Ramesh Mendis is out there now. He frustrated Australia in the first innings. Can he do it again?
