Mr Choup's remains were found in Lucas Heights bushland in August 2024. He was reported missing in July 2024 after last being seen on CCTV in Sydney being slapped.
"For Mr Choup to just sit there and be slapped in public would suggest to me that that person that was speaking to him holds a much higher position in the organisation than he did," he said.
"It was quite evident from that footage Mr Choup was in fear of that person."
Police are only going public today, more than a year later, because detectives had kept their investigation covert, Superintendent Doueihi said.
Mr Choup's alleged killers and those responsible for the violent acts are still in the country, police believe.
"We do believe this particular crew or crews were contracted to conduct these activities we do not believe they are offshore. We believe they are still in the country," Superintendent Doueihi said.
Murder victim Rich Choup was likely part of the "Asian" drug syndicate from Victoria that police believe are responsible for his death.
"We believe it's very highly likely that it's related to something that has gone wrong within a Victorian drug syndicate, we believe Mr Choup has fallen foul of that drug syndicate," Superintendent Doueihi said.
On the man in Queensland who survived being buried in a shallow grave, Superintendent Doueihi said it was "a miracle" he made it out alive.
"It's absolutely surprising that he did survive that," he said.
"He was shot through the eye ... for someone to survive that is a miracle."
Superintendent Doueihi said those who shot a 23-year-old NSW man in Queensland in July 2024 believed he was dead until he crawled out of a shallow grave.
"He was lured from NSW by a group of males not knowing what their ulterior motive was. He was shot in the head through the eye with a bullet lodged in his brain, he was buried in a shallow grave," he said.
"Unbeknown to the offenders who believed he was deceased the man crawled out of the grave and made his way to a nearby service station."
Police believe the attempted murder and the kidnapping are linked to the murder of Rich "Dylan" Choup in July 2024.
"We believe these people work for a Victorian drug syndicate," Superintendent Doueihi said.
NSW Police Homicide Squad Commander Joseph Doueihi will address the media shortly over a string of violent crimes they believe are linked to a Victorian drug trafficking ring.
