We'll leave it there!

Thanks for joining me and Jon for a wet and wild night of rugby league action.

Massive repercussions for the top eight race, with Penrith pulling off a miracle against the Titans and the Roosters standing tall through a storm in Manly.

We'll be back tomorrow.

Until then, stay dry!

It's still raining in Manly!
The Roosters keep their season alive

It was the Roosters' most telling performance of the season so season, and it has earned them ninth place on the NRL ladder.

They leapfrog tonight's vanquished opponents, and are now just two points from the Dolphins in seventh and the Sharks in eighth.

  • 7. Dolphins 26 pts. 171 PD
  • 8. Sharks      26 pts.    23 PD
  • 9. Roosters 24 pts.    20 PD
  • 10. Manly    24 pts.       6 PD

Next week, in what promises to be a massive finals shaper, they take on the Dolphins.

Fox League is talking to James Tedesco, and he is stressing just how important that fixture will be.

And how proud he is of his team's rearguard action at Brookvale tonight.

"The top one or two in the comp are top because of their defence," Tedesco says.

"So that's a big focal point for us going in to the end of the year.

"We've got Dolphins next week, which is again another do or die performance for us.

"So, we'll build on this defensive performance, pick up a few things in our execution and attack, but defensively, we've gotta keep chasing those."

Walker relieved to get the points in torrential rain

Sam Walker was really exceptional for the Roosters tonight, and he's talking to Fox Footy in the aftermath of his team's wet and wild season saving win over a lacklustre Manly-Warringah.

"It was obviously different conditions to what we're used to out here, and I thought the boys dug deep," Walker says.

"We kicked to the corners and we made it very difficult for them.

"And with the wind in the second half, it made our job a lot easier."

FT: Manly 4 - 20 Roosters

A wonderful wet weather performance from the Roosters sees them leapfrog Manly to ninth on the competition ladder.

Sam Walker was sensational at times at a sodden Brookvale Oval, with his kicking providing some game defining quality.

The Roosters were resilient in defence throughout, while Manly really lacked a cutting edge tonight.

And to compound things for the Sea Eagles, they lost Jake Trbojevic to a failed HIA and Jazz Tevaga late on.

The latter limped off the field with just minutes remaining.

75' Time running out for Manly

If it hasn't already.

The Sea Eagles need three converted tries in the final five minutes and are beginning their last role of the dice from halfway.

Tom Trbojevic almost breaks through but a last-ditch Roosters tackle keeps him out.

70' Simpkin off for HIA

He's walking off himself and looking okay, but Jake Simpkin copped a tough one in the tackle and is ordered off the field for a HIA.

With 10 minutes left, we won't see him again tonight, regardless of the outcome.

69' Roosters hanging on in the wet

It's absolute chaos out there as Jason Saab is a steam train down the right, he gets the ball off to Tom Trbojevic, who is tackled and slides through the wet almost out of play.

Water flies from everywhere as Lehi Hopoate is on the right side of a captain's challenge as the Roosters are pinged for a knock on.

Manly is looking dangerous, but again, the ball slips straight through a set of Sea Eagles hands and the roosters can rebuild.

63' Errors aplenty at Brookvale

Manly is need of something here.

The Sea Eagles are perhaps trying just a little too hard as they let slip of the ball once again.

It is so wet out there, and with the players beginning to tire, keeping hold of the football is only going to get harder.

59' Almost for Manly!

The second half's first period of sustained Manly pressure ends in a really clever Luke Brooks kick, that skims across the wet surface, hangs up appetizingly for the on-rushing Jason Saab, but just a little too much on it.

The ball dribbles behind.
