"Together with our partners, Australia will continue to support efforts to end the war and work towards a just and sustainable two-state solution."

Mohammed al-Farah, member of Ansar Allah's Political Bureau in Yemen said Hamas's response is "characterised by realism".

"Hamas responded to the Trump plan with a flexible and responsible response that demonstrates its commitment to stopping the aggression and starvation in Gaza," he said in the Hamas telegram channel.

"Its response is characterized by realism, feasibility, and openness to solutions."

Keir Starmer says Hamas's response is a significant step forward

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer believes Hamas's response to the peace plan is "significant step forwards".

"We strongly support President Trump's efforts, which have brought us closer to peace than ever before," he said on X.

"There is now an opportunity to end the fighting, for the hostages to return home, and for humanitarian aid to reach those who so desperately need it. We call on all sides to implement the agreement without delay.

Trump says 'we're very close' to peace in the Middle East

US President Donald Trump has said he believes "we're very close" to achieving peace in the Middle East.

In a pre-recorded video posted on his Truth Social account, he thanked countries for their help with the peace plan and said it was a "very special day".

"I want to thank the countries that helped me put this together, Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and so many others," he said.

"This is a big day, we'll see how it all turns out, we have to get the final word down in concrete, very importantly I look forward to having the hostages come home.

"Some of the hostages unfortunately, you know their condition their in, come home to their parents.

"I just want to let you know, this is a very special day, maybe unprecedented in many ways. It is unprecendented

"But thank you all, and thank you to all those great countries that helped. We were given a tremendous amount of help, everybody was unified in wanting this war to end and seeing peace in the Middle East.

"We're very close to achieving that."

Analysis: Trump saying Hamas is ready for peace won't be received well in Israel

ABC America's editor, John Lyons, says Hamas intends to negotiate on some terms of Trump's peace plan.

However he said "as long as that military occupation by Israel over the Palestinians continues, there will not be any lasting peace in the region".

"The Israeli government has said they have two main aims for the war, and the first is to get those hostages back, alive or dead, because they knew many of them had died, and secondly that Hamas would have absolutely no role in any future governing of Gaza, or have any military capability," he added.

"So for Donald Trump, almost to come in over the top now and for him to say he believes Hamas is ready for lasting peace, those words will certainly not be well-received by the Israeli government."

Israeli opposition leader wants details of the deal finalised

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid said "there is a genuine opportunity to release the hostages and end the war".

"Israel should announce it is joining the discussions led by the president to finalize the details of the deal," he said in a post on X.

"I have told the US administration that Netanyahu has political backing at home to continue the process."
