Thanks for being with us

Well, all good things have to come to an end - and Tony Popovic has tasted defeat for the first time as Socceroos coach.

He won't mind too much though, as he may well have learned a fair few things about his squad today.

And rather now than at the World Cup, am I right?

Thanks for being with us, we'll be back again some time soon for more football.

If you're heading to the A-League opening weekend this weekend, enjoy yourselves.

Turnovers hurt Australia

The Socceroos had 35 per cent possession throughout that match, with two shots on target from nine overall.

The USA had 10 shots total, with four on target for their two goals.

One glaring statistic for me in that match is the pass accuracy from the Socceroos of just 77 per cent compared to 86 per cent for the USA.

Those turnovers killed Australia today.

FT: Socceroos fall to defeat

It's a first defeat for Tony Popovic as Socceroos coach.

The second half was so much better, with the Socceroos really pressing and pushing the USA.

However, it was that early breakaway goal to Wright that was the difference.

90+1' CHANCE USA!!

Oh my, what a golden opportunity to seal the win for the USA!

Aidan Morris had so much space, cutting across in front of goal on the edge of the penalty area.

But as he spun to shoot he could only place his effort wide of the goal.

90+1' Mat Ryan with another save!

Brilliant from Aaronson!

He races into the penalty area and tries to squeeze the ball past Mat Ryan at the near post.

But the Socceroos captain is equal to it!

90' CHANCE SOCCEROOS!

Irankunda! He's so strong and skillful!

He powers past two defenders, the second of whom was grabbing him around his waist!

He squared up a third and then powered a shot towards goal, where the keeper made a solid stop.

Either side of him and it would have been a different story.

89' Mitch Duke comes on late

Jason Geria is off, so this will be a switch to four at the back.

84' US player is down holding his face...

Circati and Balogun have come together here off the ball.

There is no VAR here but it looks like both players were flailing their arms about like they were in a comedy skit.

Nothing doing, play on.

81' Nasty head clash

We'll have a break here because Jordy Bos and Alex Freeman have collided and they are both laid out on the deck.

That's a nasty one.

Bos is sitting up now.

But Freeman is taking a bit more time to get into a seated position. He was laid out on his side in a lot of pain.

Both men are up, thankfully.

But I can't see how either will continue.

81' Chance USA!

Aaronson and Luna link up again!

Another flowing move from the USA sees Luna hammer the ball wide.
