Time to say goodbye

Thanks very much for joining us this morning despite the disappointing scoreline.

The Matildas will certainly hope to dismiss this demolition in Derby as an aberration, but Joe Montemurro is too smart to do that.

The Matildas were brutally exposed by a very good team today and must take learnings from it as the Asia Cup approaches.

We'll be back for the Matildas' next match, but until then, it's goodbye from us.

'I'm just praying she's OK': Aggie Beever-Jones

Here's some comment from the other side.

Aggie Beever-Jones has been speaking on ITV 4 about the match.

"I think it was a really good team performance. I think we kept the ball really well. There weren't many unforced errors. It was really nice to get back in an England shirt and show everyone what we can do, especially in a wonderful stadium with so many fans after a wonderful summer," she says.

She went off injured in the second half, but says she's OK.

"It's frustrating, I didn't want to come off, but sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture, and it's a friendly, and luckily they were down to 10 men, so it didn't make a big impact. I'll be OK, just wrap up and get some recovery in."

She also paid credit to Michelle Agyemang, who was stretchered off with a knee injury.

"It's never nice when someone goes off on a stretcher, let alone a teammate. I don't know what she's done, I just hope she's ok. It's never, ever nice to see anyone in pain like that. I'm just praying she's OK."

Joe Montemurro: 'We need to be smarter'

Here's the Matildas coach Joe Montemurro.

"Unfortunately the direction of the game changed once we went a player down," he says on Paramount+.

"England are a good side and they had a little bit of the ball even before Alanna went down but it did change the opportunity for us to get involved and then we had to change the entire strategy of the game. But England are a good side and good learnings from us."

He says that the Matildas had worked hard during the week on a lot of different things.

"We're just disappointed that we didn't get a chance to show it," he says.

"That's football. There's no such thing as a friendly any more. You can have situations that change the game and that's what happened tonight.

"We can't use that as excuses and we have to be better, we have to be smarter and I think it's a good learning for us."

'One we want to forget': Carpenter

Ellie Carpenter is talking now on Paramount+

"Obviously one we want to forget," she says.

"It's never easy going down to 10 men very early.

"Very poor from us tonight.

"But I am proud that we played 80 minutes with 10 men and only conceded that penalty right at the end."

She adds that this is the sort of lesson that the Matildas need.

"The Asian Cup is very soon and I think tonight was a big lesson for us, how do we handle obstacles if we go a player down, how do we react from that," she says.

"Very disappointed in the result, it's never nice to play with one less, but this is a great learning opportunity for us."

That's the key takeaway that the Matildas need to grasp from this match.

Matildas allow 29 shots on goal

That's a record.

In that aspect, it's a minor miracle that the Matildas only conceded three.

That being said, England only managed to get nine of those on target.

Australia had three shots, one on target, for the record.

Matildas did well after 'pretty rough start': Heatley

Wini Heatley is speaking on Paramount+.

"I think when you go one man down pretty early, it's a pretty rough start," she says.

"I think it's a bummer to have conceded three goals, but I think for the most part we did well with one less player."

She adds that there were some patches of good possession, which I admit I must have missed.

England's run continues
Kerr 'felt good' on continued return from injury

More from Sam Kerr in Derby.

She says that she felt "good" on her continued return from injury, but is still "trying to get 90-minute fit."

She says that there were still some positives to take from the match.

"The positives are that we stuck together as a team. There's no finger pointing, we just got on with it," she says.

"We conceded three, but it's hard against one of the best teams in the world."

She adds that the team is excited about Joe Montemurro.

"Joes' been great. There's been a lot of demand on the players.

"It's a journey. We're gunna have down days like this, but we've had a lot of up days.

"Tonight hurts and sucks, but we're looking forward to the future."

Sam Kerr: 'Hard to judge' Matildas

Sam Kerr is speaking on Paramount+.

"It's tough to go down to 10 men against a good team like England," she says.

"We didn't even get to show what we'd worked on.

"It's really hard to judge the game because we had such a different plan for the game.

"I thought to only concede one in the second half, that penalty at the end. I felt that was positive.

"But it's really hard to judge going down to 10 men.

"It's disappointing."

FT: England claim 3-0 victory

A sour note for the English, who lose Agyemang late to that serious looking knee injury.

And a sour note for the Matildas with that dubious penalty.

But is ends 3-0 and a thoroughly deserved victory for England.
