Mamdani joined by wife and parents on stage to conclude

The new New York mayor is joined on stage by his wife and parents.

The four of them stand front and centre for photos and wave to the crowd of supporters before leaving the stage to conclude proceedings.

'This power, it's yours', Mamdani tells New York

Mamdani does some crowd work now. He tees up the crowd to finish his sentences, in another way to reiterate his promises.

"New York, this power, it's yours. This city it belongs to you," he says before a final thank you and a wave to the crowd.

Mamdani reminds Trump New York is now 'led by an immigrant'

"New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants and as of tonight led by an immigrant," Mamdani says to a loud crowd.

He promises Donald Trump that if he wants to get to the people of New York, he has to go through him now.

Mamdani says he knows expectations will be high for him and his team.

"We will meet them," he says.

Mamdani tells Donald Trump to 'turn the volume up'

Mamdani speaks directly to the US president now.

"If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him," he says.

"This is not only how we stop Trump, but how we stop the next one.

"So Donald Trump, since I know you're watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up!"

All will be welcome in New York, new mayor says

Mamdani now speaks to the diverse cultures and people within the five boroughs of New York City.

He promises that all people, of all backgrounds will feel welcome and at home in the city.

He says "no more will New York be the city where you can traffic Islamophobia and win an election".

"We will prove that there is no problem for a government to solve and no concern too small for it to care about," he said.

"On January 1st, we will usher in a city government that helps everyone."

Mamdani vows to show 'improvement' through his promises

"Years from now may our only regret be that this day took so long to come," Mamdani says.

"This new age will be one of relentless improvement."

The new mayor then ran through all his promises made within his campaign. The crowd cheers to every one he lists off.

He says that New York will be the "light" in America during this time of political darkness.

New Yorkers 'chose hope' in voting for him, Mamdani says

Mamdani says more than a million New Yorkers "chose hope together" in voting for him today.

"We won because New Yorkers allowed themselves to hope that the impossible could be made possible," he said.

"We won because we insisted that politics would no longer be something done to us, we insisted it is now something we do."

More thanks to campaign team, his parents and wife

"To my campaign team who believed when no one else did, and who took an electoral project and turned it into so much more, I will never be able to express my gratitude," he adds.

"To my parents, Mumma and Bubba, you have made me into the man I am today, I am so grateful to be your son."

He also thanks his wife saying "there is no one I would rather have by my side".

He promises to "make this city a better city then it was the day before".

Mamdani praises volunteers and diverse New York community

"This city is your city, and this democracy is yours too," Mamdani continues.

He goes on to specifically thank people of different backgrounds and heritages who live in New York.

"This victory is for all of them, and it's for all of you," he says.

He thanks his team of volunteers, saying they helped "erode the cynicism" within politics in the city.

Mamdani thanks the crowd, promises to fight for New Yorkers

He goes on to say he will deliver his mandate as promised.

On January 1st he will be sworn in as the mayor of New York City, he confirms.

"Before I say anything else, I must say this — thank you," he says to the crowd.

"We will fight for you because we are you.

"Thank you to those so often forgotten by the politics of our city."
