Thank you and goodnight!

Awww FranNac, from Jess and myself thank YOU and everyone else that joined us for the Golden Globes blog today (we'll pass your praise onto the cricket bloggers haha).

We're going to leave you here but there's plenty more Globes content for you to check out including:

Until next year!

Where does this leave us Oscar-wise?

We still have a couple of awards ceremonies before we get to the Oscars in March but the Golden Globes have provided some invaluable information.

Here are my very non-scientific predictions:

  • Sinners' showing today and at the Critics Choice make me very worried we're gonna see a historic snub come Oscars, even if the horror picks up a bunch of nominations
  • Likewise, One Battle After Another is looking hot to win at LEAST Best Screenplay and at most, Screenplay, Director and Picture
  • It might be because Globes split genres but I'm holding on hope that Rose Byrne is back in the race for Best Actress
  • No one is beating Kpop Demon Hunters, just give them Best Animation now
  • Chalamet's trite act seems to be paying off and it would be surprising if anyone can catch him before March
  • Best Picture was shaping up to be a head to head between One Battle After Another but Hamnet's win today might just lead the Academy to take the bait

Let me know your predictions in the comments!

Let me go back to Julia Roberts's moment

There was a lot going on when Julia Roberts jumped up to present Best Comedy or Musical, including a standing ovation!

But I want to highlight the moment she called out Eva Victor, the writer, director and star of Sorry, Baby.

Moments before reading the winner Roberts called Victor her "hero".

"Sorry, Baby, if you have not seen it, see it," Roberts said to a shocked shot of Victor.

Victor was a surprise nominee at today's Golden Globes but if you've seen Sorry, Baby you'll understand why Roberts had to pause. The movie is incredible, a story about healing, grief, anger, friendship and so much more.

What makes it even more stunning is Sorry, Baby was Victor's directorial debut.

Read our interview with Victor below.

What makes a comedy?

Ahhh, the eternal question, Sarah: why do some very non-comedy films end up in comedy?

This issue comes up a lot with the Globes because they split their bigger awards into two categories, Drama and Comedy or Musical.

Which doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room for nuance.

The reason we see a nailbiting film like One Battle After Another or Rose Byrne's heart-wrenching If I Had Legs I'd Kick You performance lumped into comedy is simple — studio and PRs put them there.

Studios are the ones who decide which category films and TV shows go in when they submit their projects for awards consideration.

Some consider this a form of light cheating if a film or TV show doesn't want to go up against a stronger competitor they would otherwise would have to if lumped in the same genre.

But yeah, that's basically the reason One Battle After Another showed up in the comedy category this year.

Celebs seen sporting 'be good' pins in memory of Renee Nicole Good

Celebrities such as Mark Ruffalo, Natasha Lyonne, and Jean Smart can be seen wearing "be good" pins tonight.

The pins are in honour of Renee Nicole Good, who was shot dead by a federal immigration agent in Minneapolis last week.

Hours before the ceremony, Ruffalo posted that as "a concerned human, I can’t pretend like this is normal", in reference to the 37-year-old's death.

That's it!

The Golden Globes are OVER for 2026.

What an eclectic ceremony, some really unexpected winners there.

I'm obviously fuming at all the Sinners disrespect — even when it was separated from One Battle After Another!!

But I'm thrilled for Rose Byrne, Teyana Taylor and Rhea Seehorn for getting their well-deserved flowers.

We're gonna stick around a little longer on the blog and our comments are open! Tell us what you loved, tell us what you hated, tell us if you're rushing out to see Hamnet when it hits Aus cinemas this week!

Nikki Glaser caps off the night

Wearing a Spinal Tap baseball cap, host Nikki Glaser thanks us all for joining before wishing "a good Chalamet to you all!"

The ceremony might be over, but don't go anywhere! We'll be unpacking the biggest moments of the night, including all the snubs and surprises.

Steven Spielberg and Chloé Zhao accepts Hamnet's big win

Hamnet producer Steven Spielberg shouts out the author of the book Hamnet is based on, Maggie O'Farrell.

He said he only had one director in mind: Chloé Zhao.

"The most important thing of being an artist is being vulnerable enough to be seen," Zhao says.

"I look around this room and there are so many of you I have known for many, many years, [including] my fellow nominees.

"I'm looking at you and I see so many of you have become so strong and tender at the same time, and you've shared so much of yourselves.

"Let's do this together, let's keep our hearts open".
