Israel's defence minister says war with Iran entering 'decisive phase'

Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, said on Saturday that the conflict with Tehran was entering a “decisive phase,” following US strikes on what Washington described as military targets on Iran’s Kharg Island oil export hub.

Speaking to senior military officials in a televised statement, Katz praised the US operations and framed them as part of a broader campaign.

"The global and regional struggle against Iran, led by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is escalating and entering the decisive phase that will continue as long as necessary," he said.

Iran allows limited passage for Indian ships through Strait of Hormuz

Iran has allowed some Indian vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, Tehran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, said on Saturday, marking a rare exception to the blockade that has disrupted global energy supplies.

Speaking at broadcaster India Today’s conclave in New Delhi, Fathali did not specify how many vessels had been granted safe passage.

The move comes after the United States and Israel launched a bombing campaign on Iran, which has led Tehran to largely halt traffic through the strait.

The Strait of Hormuz runs along Iran’s coast and handles around 20 per cent of the world’s oil and seaborne liquefied natural gas.

Macron offers Paris as venue for Lebanon ceasefire talks

France says it is ready to facilitate ceasefire discussions between Israel and Lebanon in Paris, according to French President Emmanuel Macron.

In a post on X on Saturday, Mr Macron said Lebanon's leadership was open to direct discussions with Israel and urged Israel to take part in negotiations.

He called on Israel to "seize this opportunity to launch ceasefire discussions, to find a lasting solution and to allow the Lebanese authorities to put in place their engagements for Lebanon's sovereignty."

Mr Macron also called on Israel to halt its offensive and urged Hezbollah to stop its actions.

"Everything must be done to stop Lebanon from descending into chaos," he said.

Iran warns UAE residents to stay away from ports

Iran's military has warned that it considers ports in the United Arab Emirates to be legitimate targets and urged residents to avoid them, in a statement carried by state TV.

Tehran "considers it its legitimate right to defend its national sovereignty and territory by striking American enemy missiles located in ports, docks and US military hideouts" in the UAE, the military's central operational command, Khatam Al-Anbiya, said.

The statement urged civilians to "evacuate" port areas.

The warning follows the attempted drone attack which has caused a fire at Fujairah's port in the UAE that we reported on below.

Unverified footage posted online purportedly shows huge plumes of smoke rising from the area.

Fire at UAE port due to drone interception: authorities

There's more information coming in on the attack on the port in the city of Fujairah in the UAE that we reported on earlier.

The UAE's media office said a fire begun after debris fell during the interception of a drone.

No injuries were reported.

Civil defence forces are handling the incident to contain the fire, it added.

The Port of Fujairah is a major bunkering hub, the second biggest in the world, where ships go to receive fuel for voyages.

Protests over Iran war draw opposing groups to Sydney CBD

Reporting by Alexander Lewis

Protests on opposing sides of the Iran conflict were held in Sydney's CBD on Saturday afternoon, with police arresting one woman for breaching the peace.

Officers led the 49-year-old woman away from a crowd after she shouted accusations about killings during protests in Iran.

Some people in the gathering held signs displaying the late Iranian leader Ali Khamenei.

"They killed 40,000 people in two nights," the woman yelled as police held her arms.

"They killed our sisters and brothers. They keep killing innocent people."

NSW Police said the woman complied with a move-on direction issued by officers.

Iranian authorities have said more than 3,000 people were killed in nationwide protests earlier this year, though activist groups claim the true number may be in the tens of thousands. The death toll has not been independently verified.

The demonstration at Sydney's Sydney Town Hall was initially promoted as an anti-AUKUS and anti-war protest, but appeared to be taken over by supporters of the Iranian regime.

Drone attack halts oil loading at UAE port

Some oil loading operations at the UAE's Port of Fujairah — just outside the Strait of Hormuz — have been suspended following a drone attack and fire on Saturday morning, Bloomberg reports.

The sources, who asked not to be named because they are not authorised to speak publicly, say the incident disrupted some activity at the major oil export hub.

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and officials at the port did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

No oil infrastructure damaged on Kharg Island: Iranian media

Iranian state media is claiming no oil infrastructure was damaged in US strikes on Kharg Island, Tehran's crucial crude export hub in the Gulf.

The Fars news agency, citing sources on the island, reported there had been no damage to oil facilities after President Donald Trump said US strikes had destroyed only military targets.

According to Fars, the US operation "tried to damage the army's defences, the Joshan naval base, the airport control tower and the helicopter hangar of the Iran Continental Shelf Oil Company".

Earlier today Trump said the US carried out strikes against "every military target" on the island.

"For reasons of decency, I have chosen NOT to wipe out the Oil Infrastructure on the Island," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump did threaten to target oil infrastructure on the island if Iran continues to block the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has, in turn, threatened to target US-linked oil infrastructure.

45 people arrested in the UAE for posting about Iranian attacks

Police in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates have arrested 45 people of various nationalities for sharing images on social media of Iranian attacks.

Local media are reporting the detainees are accused of spreading misinformation, likely to provoke concern.

Authorities had earlier warned that publishing unverified information violated regulations.
