The 49er boat has a rich history in New Zealand thanks to Peter Burling and Blair Tuke. The duo of Isaac McHardie and William McKenzie have taken the mantle and made the perfect start in Marseille with victory in the opening race. They backed that up with a third in race two and an eighth in race three. Their worst score gets taken off so they sit on four points after day one in top spot.

Looking at the standings they will need a win over France in their final pool game to have any hope of advancing to the quarter-finals. 

Canada beat France today 2-1, to move to 0 points. Canada got the winner in the 102nd minute.
