That's all folks

That concludes our live coverage of today's squad naming.

We'll be back throughout the week for more build-up as the All Blacks prepare to face the Brave Blossoms, so make sure to join us again soon!

Scott Robertson to speak

The All Blacks coach will front media in about 10 minutes.

We'll post the video above, so stay tuned.

Who's missing?

Of the All Blacks' first team regulars, 10 of the players that started the last test do not feature against Japan.

Ethan de Groot, Codie Taylor, Tyrel Lomax, captain Scott Barrett, Tupou Vaa'i, Ardie Savea, Beauden Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Rieko Ioane and Will Jordan have not been named, and are likely to travel to Europe early.

Cortez Ratima, who came off the bench in that test, could also head to England early.

Proctor returns

After impressing on his test debut, Billy Proctor has had to be patient for his second cap - but has earned it.

The 25-year-old returns to the No 13 jersey, alongside Anton Lienert-Brown.

Sititi moves to No 8

Is that a sign of things to come? The 22-year-old has been a revelation at No 6 for Robertson, but No 8 is where he's been at his best for the Chiefs.

With Sam Cane moving on at the end of the year, is this the first sign that Ardie Savea will fill the gap at No 7 to replace him?

Scott Robertson:

“We have had a fantastic few days in Tokyo so far and the energy in the group as we kick off this tour is exciting to see," said the All Blacks coach.

"We will bring that energy when we face the Brave Blossoms on Saturday, as we know that Japan will play a fast, attacking game.

“We are all thrilled for Ruben and Peter who will get their chance to make their mark on the black jersey for the first time, and for Stephen and Cam who have both worked hard to make their return from injury.

"Congratulations also to Patrick for being named as All Blacks captain. Pat has great mana, leadership and experience; it’s a proud moment for him and his whānau.

“The welcome and hospitality we have received in Japan has been very humbling, so we look forward to repaying this support with a performance to be proud of on Saturday."

No Barretts!

Real rugby trainspotting from NZ Herald's Will Toogood - this is the first team in the Scott Robertson era without a Barrett brother.

You have to go back to last year's World Cup win over Uruguay to find that same feat.

Wow! That's a much stronger team than what was expected.

Robertson has named two debutants, Peter Lakai and Ruben Love, both off the bench.

Elsewhere, both Stephen Perofeta and Cam Roigard make their test returns after lengthy injury layoffs.
