Former U.S Vice President Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance at the Met Gala with her husband Doug Emhoff — attending the event at the invitation of Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, the Met Gala co-chair. So far, she has not walked the carpet.
Harris is wearing a gown by Off-White designed by IB Kamara. The design was meant to celebrate Dandyism — defined by the Off-White team as “showing up as your best self without the need to be flashy or overworked.”
The gown was designed with a mix of heavy cady silks to give it a deep luxurious texture, according to the Off-White team. “To me the true core of dandyism is rooted in confidence and strength,” IB Kamara said in a statement. “With her look for this monumental night at the Met celebrating Black culture and iconicity, we felt simplicity is best. Utilizing a mix of silk fabrications and precise tailoring, we added subtle flares allowing her own dandyism to shine through — like the dramatic sleeve and elongated scarf.”
