Pope calls for 'responsibility and reason' from Israel, Iran

Pope Leo XIV on Saturday called on Israel and Iran to show responsiblity and reason, as the two arch-foes clashed in their largest conflict.

"The situation in Iran and Israel has seriously deteriorated at such a delicate moment. I wish to forcefully renew an appeal for responsibility and reason," the pope said in a statement.

"The commitment to build a safer world free from the nuclear threat must be pursued through a respectful meeting and sincere dialogue," he said. "No one should ever threaten the existence of the other."

60 people, including 20 children, killed after Israeli strike on residential building in Tehran, state media reporter says

Sixty people have been killed following an Israeli strike on a residential building in Tehran, according to an Iranian state media reporter.

Iranian television showed live images of workers removing debris from the site of a 14-storey building in the Shahrak-e Shahid Chamran residential compound in Tehran.

According to a reporter at the site, 20 children were killed in the residential building, including infants as young as 6 months old. Ten bodies reportedly remain under the rubble.

Iran’s UN envoy Amir Saeid Iravani said on Saturday at least 78 people had been killed by Israeli strikes. It was not immediately clear whether the 60 killed in the residential building were included in his tally.

Iran's articipation in upcoming US talks 'still unclear', according to state media

Iran has yet to make a decision on whether it will attend talks with the United States on Sunday, its foreign ministry spokesperson was cited as saying in state-affiliated media.

Esmail Baghaei said the US’ support for Israel has rendered negotiations “meaningless".

“It is not possible for you to simultaneously claim to be negotiating and talking to reach an understanding on an issue, while at the same time … allowing a racist regime to violate the territorial integrity of [Iran],” Baghaei said, according to Nour News.

White House officials continue to argue US President Donald Trump is committed to salvaging the nuclear talks, the sixth round of which was due in the Omani capital Muscat on Sunday.

Iran's strikes to continue, state media reports

Iran's state-run Fars news agency has stated Iran's strikes "will continue" and not conclude with Friday night's strikes. The agency cites an unnamed official.

The official, who was referencing comments made by senior military commanders, says Iran will also target US bases in the region in the coming days.

Israel claims wave of attacks against Tehran overnight

The Israeli Air Force said it carried out a wave of strikes hitting defense arrays in Tehran overnight into Saturday.

“These strikes carry operational and national significance. We damaged – and will continue to damage – strategic sites and enemy sources of knowledge,” commanding officer of the Israeli Air Force MG Tomer Bar said in a situational assessment.

Israeli Air Force planes struck dozens of targets, including surface-to-air missile infrastructure, Bar said.

“For the first time since the beginning of the war, over 1500 kilometres from Israeli territory, the IAF struck defence arrays in the area of Tehran,” he added.

More Iranian drones heading for Israel, IDF says

The Israel Defence Forces says more Iranian drones are heading toward Israel.

“A short while ago, sirens sounded in several areas across Israel following the identification of UAVs launched from Iran toward the State of Israel,” the IDF said in a statement on Saturday.

The Israeli Air Force said on X it had intercepted a number of those UAVs following alerts activated in the Judea and Dead Sea areas.

Israeli forces continue to strike targets in Iran

The Israeli military has released a brief statement saying its forces continued to strike targets in Iran more than 24 hours after the attacks on Iran's nuclear sites and military leadership began.

In the statement, posted to Telegram, the IDF said "the [Israeli Air Force] continues to strike targets to remove threats in Iran".

The comments were posted alongside a video showing footage of aerial strikes.

Two dead, 20-plus wounded after rocket hits central Israel

Two people have died and more than 20 were wounded after an Iranian rocket hit near homes in Rishon Lezion, just south of Tel Aviv, Israel’s emergency services said.

A large number of paramedics were sent to the scene, where they found extensive damage and a number of people trapped under rubble.

“This is a difficult and complex scene and we are still continuing to scan and ensure that there are no additional victims inside the buildings,” said Rami Musher, deputy director of the Ayalon region’s emergency services.
