Well, that will do it for the blog today

Here's the report of the day's action. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday night.

A statement on the crash

"Racing has been abandoned following a major collision between New Zealand and France on Day One of the Auckland Sail Grand Prix. Two athletes have been treated for injuries but are in stable condition. All other crew members have been accounted for onboard."

It's understood the two injured sailors, one from each team,  have been transported to hospital.

"Like someone hit the mute button"

This was the description from British sailing legend David 'Freddie' Carr of the change in sound at the grandstand after the crash.

The teams were sending it to try to get a good position early in the race, and it all went wrong for the Kiwis.

RACING ABANDONED

That's all for today.

For now, racing remains halted with no indication of when or if it will resume today.

Looking at the replay, that's a really bad scenario for the Black Foils as almost all of the team was on the near side of the boat when the French hull crashed over the top of them - not too far from the grinding pedestals.

Commentators are now reporting two sailors have been injured in the collision.

The injury was to one of the Kiwi team though it remains unclear who it was. Sounds like that won't be confirmed until the sailor has gone through medical checks.

Likely to be the Black Foils' at fault there

Looking at the replay, it looked like the Kiwis lost control at high speed and drifted into the path of the French.

French driver Quentin Delapierre did what he could to avoid the collision, but there was no way he could prevent it from happening.

All athletes are safe

According to the broadcast, there is one injury between to two teams but it's not clear who or what that is.
