FT: ENG 26-23 ARG

So England end their unexpected campaign with a bronze while the Pumas, also an unexpected feature in this match, go home empty handed.

Of course, the big talking point from this one will be the missed penalty late in the match from the Pumas and all the "what ifs" that will conjure but it was just one moment in a respectable third place playoff from both sides.

It's well-recognised no side wants to be in this match, given where they could've been had a result gone their way the week before, but both sides came out and gave it their all and in the end, England had just that little bit more to get them home.

That does it for our live updates. Stick around on the site for a proper wrap of the match as well as all the highlights and reactions from our team on the ground in Paris on 1News at 6pm tonight.

Otherwise, we'll see you again tomorrow morning for the big dance when the All Blacks take on the Springboks for the Rugby World Cup.

We'll see you then!

80min: ENG 26-23 ARG

Another HUGE shove from Argentina but England survive to get the ball out! And so they set up their little pods of forwards and will look to chew up the clock.

Pumas throw EVERYTHING at the scrum looking for a turnover but it's a penalty for England instead and that will end it.

England win bronze, Pumas finish one short of equalling their all-time best.

A scrum reset takes us into the final minute. Still England's feed.

78min: ENG 26-23 ARG

The TMO has had an absolute workout going through multiple moments of possible infringements in that last phase of play but finds nothing so we will indeed pack down. The England is in fact 10m from halfway.

78min: ENG 26-23 ARG

Pumas pack tries the shove but England survive! A kick deep into the Pumas 22 but they will run it out and have found a tonne of space down the left wing! Down to England's 22 and looking to move it quickly. Comes back to the right but the ball is lost by the Pumas! England on the ball but no advantage so we're headed for a scrum. Should be around 15m from halfway.

90 seconds on the clock.

77min: ENG 26-23 ARG

And just as the Pumas attack is start to fire up, the ball is loose at the base of a ruck and touches an Argentinian boot, going forward into another Pumas so it's a brutal, but correct, accidental offside call.

England scrum 10m inside their half - they were here this time last week against the Springboks. Can they win this scrum this time to secure their win?

76min: ENG 26-23 ARG

Argentina take the dropout and are back inside England's half. The will likely hold on to it from here and look to go the distance...

75min: ENG 26-23 ARG

ARG NO THREE! And Sanchez has missed it! Pulled the ball to the left of the uprights and so it's an England dropout on their 22.

75min: ENG 26-23 ARG

Pumas win their scrum and into the English 22 they go! England desperately try to shut down the attack but in doing so are penalised! HUGE call - go for the win or tie things up?

Plenty of discussion from the Pumas leaders with captain Montoya now on the bench and in the end, Sanchez calls for his tee.

Not the easiest of kicks this - it's on the English 22 but only 5m in from the left sideline. So it's a tight angle...

74min: ENG 26-23 ARG

It's a chaotic scrum but the Pumas come out firing down the blindside! Up to England's 22 before the ball comes back to the midfield. England's defence rushes the ball but in going for the dominant tackle, they tap the ball and it's a knock on.

Pumas with another scrum but this one in a much better attacking position - 25m out from England's line in the middle of the field. Prime spot to launch from.

Can the Pumas steal a win?
